Mahalaya: Mahishasur Mardini at 5AM Dallas time (CST) on Sep 27th

Radio Antorik will broadcast Mahishasur Mardini by Birendra Krishna Bhadra and other famous artists to celebrate Mahalaya on Mahalaya day (September 27th) at 5am CST on 104.9 FM for our listeners in the Dallas Fort-Worth area. For our friends outside the DFW area, live streaming over the internet and on your iPhone is also available.

Since the early 1930s, Mahalaya has come to associate itself with an early morning radio program called "Mahishasura Mardini" (the annihilator of the demon Mahishasura). Chanting of the hymns from the holy book of "Chandi" in the recorded voice of late Birendra Krishna Bhadra over radio has become synonymous to the real Chandipath. This is a beautiful audio montage of recitation from the scriptural verses of "Chandi", Bengali devotional songs, classical music and a dash of acoustic melodrama. For nearly six decades now, Bengalis rise up in the chilly pre dawn hours of Mahalaya to tune in to "Mahishasura Mardini".
